The Birthing Inn, located in Tacoma Washington is considered an "Open Model" birth center which means that individual midwives/ midwife practices apply for privileges to use the facility--it is kind of like "your house or mine?" Each midwife that is granted privileges is carefully selected and remains in good standing with their scope, credentials and rigorous birth center accreditation. This unique model allows for clients to hand pick and hire the midwife that they resonate best with, instead of birthing with whichever provider is on call when you give birth, in the "Closed Model" which utilizes an on-call rotational shift framework. Often times with larger practices clients will have never met their delivering provider. Emily is a solo-practicing midwife, which means that all of your prenatal visits, labor, birth and postpartum visits will be done directly with her. At the time of birth, Emily will call in her highly experienced, qualified birth assistant to aid with charting, labor management and clean up. Childbirth Education Classes

Childbirth Classes
During our classes we will cover three sections: The first is "The Anatomy of Pregnancy" this is where we dive into the foundations of birth, and cover topics like station, effacement, dilation, what contractions feel like and, when to go to your birthing place. Then we cover "Finding Comfort" where we discover what coping techniques resonate best with you personally! During this time we will also walk through several technical aspects of comfort measures such as optimal fetal positioning, hip-squeezes and counter pressure. Our third class is all about "Bringing Baby Home" . During this class we will talk about immediate postpartum, feeding your baby and basic newborn care. As we dive into feeding plans we can discuss chest-feeding troubleshooting and/or introducing a bottle, depending on what your personal feeding plans are.

*Pricing is per couple. Birth Support Partners are always welcome, and encouraged to attend!

ABOUT ME

A

Having served over 350 families in the birthing space, I believe fiercely in the power of support. My purpose is to help the birthing person have a safe, comfortable, empowering, and memorable birthing experience. I offer my clients emotional, physical, and educational support as they journey through a 'hinge' moment in their lives. I feel passionately about midwifery work and supporting people regardless their race, religion, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic status. It is through midwifery care that barriers can be broken down and outcomes can be improved. My philosophy as a midwife is that birth is a process, not a method. There is no 'correct' way to give birth--each birth is unique, and in turn requires tailored assistance. I support birthing clients through providing in depth prenatal care, comprehensive decision making conversations and evidence based practice. My top priorities as a midwife is my clients safety and satisfaction. A powerful phrase that I use often to my clients is "Your body, your birth, your baby. I am here to help facilitate your best birth how you define it." When people ask me "What makes you unique as a midwife?" I often find myself saying : " I use my heart, and my hands to provide a tailored birthing space. I bring grounding relief to birthing people and their team, I do this through having an open mind, and an open heart. I always go the extra mile to provide comprehensive care to my clients. I have a strong belief that a birth space is a 'sacred' space, whether you are a religious person or not--there is something sacrosanct about a birth space. I am honored, to be able to support and empower during such an impactful moment, in ones life--in their home or at the birth center.
