The Birthing Inn, located in Tacoma Washington is considered an "Open Model" birth center which means that individual midwives/ midwife practices apply for privileges to use the facility--it is kind of like "your house or mine?" Each midwife that is granted privileges is carefully selected and remains in good standing with their scope, credentials and rigorous birth center accreditation. This unique model allows for clients to hand pick and hire the midwife that they resonate best with, instead of birthing with whichever provider is on call when you give birth, in the "Closed Model" which utilizes an on-call rotational shift framework. Often times with larger practices clients will have never met their delivering provider. Emily is a solo-practicing midwife, which means that all of your prenatal visits, labor, birth and postpartum visits will be done directly with her. At the time of birth, Emily will call in her highly experienced, qualified birth assistant to aid with charting, labor management and clean up.
